The GVA is a defensive juggernaut designed to hold the "Throat", the front line, where the Malignant Concord attempts to seep into the rest of the world, especially the populous Archduchy of Vane. Because the enemy is a sprawling, biological, and fungal-industrial horror, the GVA operates on a doctrine of "Sterile Defense."
The Combat Specialist Roles
The GVA operates through a highly integrated synergy of specialized units:
Filter Breakers & Anchor-Jacks: These are the pioneers. The Anchor-Jacks bolt heavy iron barricades into the mountain rock under fire, while Filter Breakers—the shock troops—plunge into the thickest Concord mists to destroy "spore-nodes." They wear the heaviest respirators and carry short-range, high-impact weaponry.
Aether-Wardens & Radiant Dragoons: The "Energy Wing." Aether-Wardens deploy portable power cells to keep the squad's life support running. Radiant Dragoons act as fast-response interceptors, using jet-assisted leaps to drop into breaches and hold the gap until the heavy infantry arrives.
Lux-Marksmen & Silk Stalkers: The "Eyes and Thorns." Lux-Marksmen use long-range solar-rifles to ignite Concord targets from the high ridges, while Silk Stalkers move through the lightless "crawl-spaces" of the front to sabotage Concord bio-machinery from within.
The Sentinel Captains & High-Command: They manage the "Attrition Clock." Their job is to monitor the squad's oxygen and filter levels. A Sentinel Captain doesn't just give orders; they decide when a unit’s gear is too contaminated to save, ordering the final stand or the deep-seal.
The Conscripts are the lifeblood of the front. They aren't expected to be masters of war; they are trained to hold a shield, check a seal, and stand their ground. The 6-month "Burn" is designed to keep the front-line meat fresh.
"A soldier who has been in the mists for a year is a liability. A soldier who has been there for six months still remembers the taste of clean air—and they’ll fight like hell to get back to it."
Combat against the Concord is a sensory nightmare. The air is thick with a sweet, sickly rot. The sound of battle is a mix of hissing steam valves, the rhythmic thud of GVA pistons, and the unsettling, organic silence of the Concord.
The GVA does not seek a "Final Victory." They seek an eternal stalemate. As long as the GVA stands, the Concord stays in the dark, and the light stays in the Vane.
